This log documents a significant technical learning curve in translating my 2D ‘stone lion’ (石狮子) line art into 3D relief models. My method was to convert the line art into a greyscale heightmap and then use that to generate the 3D surface. This process involved “many failures” (失败了很多次) at the outset. I critically identified that my initial models were “unsuccessful” because the “greyscale images were wrong” (灰度图不太对) and the “depth values were not up to standard” (深浅很不达标). Through further research, I diagnosed the root cause: I was using “unqualified” or “unclean” line art. I learned that only a “clean line art” (干净的线稿) can produce a “suitable greyscale image” with the correct depth information. After finding the correct method, I successfully generated the relief models. As shown in the images, my standard practice is to “split them into different parts” (拆分成不同的零件) during this process, as this method allows for much easier modification and adjustment later in the sculpting phase
