After reaching a significant creative block on how to resolve the main body composition, I strategically pivoted my attention to refining other critical details rather than halt progress. I re-evaluated the hand sculpt, identifying the previous version as “too smooth” and lacking the “bony” quality my concept requires. My aesthetic goal was to create a hand that conveyed a “morbid” (病态) feeling and a “sense of strength,” defined by “distinct knuckles” and even “veins.” After researching real-world and claw-like references, I sculpted this new, more successful hand as a replacement component. In parallel, I focused on resolving the doll’s underlying structural and articulation problems. The previous version had severe functional issues; the foot joint, in particular, was inflexible. As shown in the 3D models, I re-engineered this part by designing a new hook mechanism to hold the elastic cords, which now enables fully flexible toe movement. I applied this same technical problem-solving to modifying the wing structure, which also had significant issues. This pivot allowed me to make tangible progress on the project’s refinement while allowing the more complex creative problem of the torso to incubate.
