This image must be inserted as a critical conceptual origin point from my previous semester’s doll development. It documents my initial exploration of how to integrate the female body with Gothic church architecture, as seen by the 2D line-work overlaid on the 3D torso model. My conceptual intent here was highly specific and foundational to the entire project: I identify the Gothic church as a historical collection of patriarchal authority and power. My goal was therefore an act of appropriation—to deliberately take these symbols of patriarchy (the arches, spires, and structural frameworks) and re-contextualize them into a “very feminine” work, like a corset or bodily adornment. This idea of using the very visual language of power and oppression to create a piece of feminine expression or armour was the central theme I carried forward.
